Last month, LendIt Fintech released the results from the first-ever Women in Fintech Survey, marking an important shift in attention towards female leaders and identifying critical inequities within the industry.

While women make up nearly 50% of the workforce today, few are working in fintech. One notable trend from the survey shows that women remain highly underrepresented in engineering departments within financial services and technology on the whole. In fact, a recent report by Crunchbase found that of all startups which received funding in 2017, only 17% of them were started by women, and sadly, the number was not growing. What’s more, only about 20% of medium and large firm asset managers and only 2% of banking CEOs are female according to the Center for Global Development.  The numbers are striking, if not disappointing.
